FAQs
Here are the questions that I am most frequently asked. If you don’t find what you need, please feel free to contact me.
About fused glass art
-
Glass specially made for firing in a kiln is hand cut, arranged (possibly in layers) and fired to create a unique piece of glass art. Sheet glass is often embellished with frit, stringers and glass enamel paints. The first firing fuses the components together. The piece may then be fired one or more times to incorporate additional design elements or to shape 3-dimensional pieces, such as bowls and waves, before the final unique piece emerges. Each firing takes from 6 to 24+ hours depending upon the process, size, thickness and design of the glass.
-
Yes! All pieces are handmade by the artist. As every piece is individually made using artistic art glass, colours may vary slightly and no two designs/patterns will be exactly the same.
-
Dichroic is a special and very expensive glass to produce. Thin metal-oxide layers create a dichroic effect with light wavelengths passing through. As a result, the glass changes colour based on the viewing angle and light conditions.
-
Fused glass items can be hand-washed in warm water with a mild detergent. Do not put them in a dishwasher, microwave or oven.
