Spring’s Here (at last!)
After not posting a blog for 6 months, here I am at long last!
My eyes (cataracts) have finally been sorted, so no more squinting!! It’s made me feel so much better in myself, so much so that my head is now buzzing with fused glass ideas!!!
And now that Spring is finally here, it’s back to being creative and trying new glass designs. Lately I have suffered from the occasional runny nose, probably caused by dust and grass, so I’ve been getting through lots of tissues and hankies!
So, with hankies in mind, my latest tealight holder design is fittingly called my “Handkerchief Tealight”, simply because it drapes down on all sides, just like when you are holding a handkerchief. It’s been great fun designing them despite a few mishaps along the way, with wonky shapes and wobbly bottoms!
During April I will be offering at least one fused glass Experience Day – keep an eye on my Upcoming Events page for dates.
Experience Days are held in my own home, where I show you what fused glass is all about. While you are relaxing on the terrace, with a drink in your hand overlooking the sea, I share ideas with you on how to create and make your own unique pieces of fused glass.
Many people worry that they do not have a “crafts” background and can’t see how they could possibly design and make something beautiful. Well, I am here to help you and show you that you can!
My new handkerchief tealight designs are such fun to make. Or, if you prefer, design a piece that only requires one firing and produce a pretty little dish instead. Alternatively, you may like the look of my abstract tealight holders. These are bigger and heavier but equally as stunning with the abstract glass and coloured beads. The choice is yours!
Last Autumn I had great fun holding a Workshop in the White Square Art Gallery, Sotogrande with 6 ladies, who each designed and made an abstract piece of glass art.
Some ladies left their pieces unmounted so they could subsequently attach them to a frame to hang on the wall. Others wanted it attached to a tealight holder to place around their home. All these ladies had never worked with glass before. Their work was amazing and once it was fused in my kiln, the pieces were shiny, smooth and stunning!!!
To help inspire you, I have provided a few examples of handkerchief and abstract tealights below. You can view more by browsing my Gallery. Take look and see what you think!
