A Fishy Story
As I live in Southern Spain, I was plagued (along with millions of others!) with electricity & internet supply problems plus heavy rain & thunderstorms this past week. I was beginning to wonder where our lovely weather had gone to?!? But, today, we are back to normal, thank goodness 😊. I’m now looking at the beautiful blue sky and thinking of the blue sea, waves, bubbles and fish!
A few years ago, I was shown how to use copper oxide in my fused glass art, which is a powder that makes bubbles. The copper will turn dark blue on firing, rather than the expected red colour. I initially made two coasters using copper oxide, decorated with fish cut out of copper foil. The result was stunning.
As I loved the effect, I recently used copper oxide again to create a “fishy” picture using periwinkle blue coloured glass. When I fired it, I added a hook at the top so this piece can be displayed on an outside wall as well as being on show in the home.
This week I tried my hand again with fish cut out of copper foil and added some more copper oxide – I think the end result turned out rather well. This piece I have mounted on a small white frame.
I also have just designed and fired a larger piece (30cm x 20cm), this being a multi-blue colour seahorse. I deliberately fired it without hooks at the top as someone might like it framed. So, whoever falls in love with my seahorse can decide what will suit them best. I can easily refire it to include hooks at the top if required.
You can view these pieces below and also other pieces in My Gallery here on the ValerieAnn fused glass art website. What do you think?
With seahorses in mind, I have just seen a Facebook post promoting a Mystic Dragon Kids Art Kit. This looks a great way to keep your children amused – better than them watching TV! OK… so it’s not seahorse but there are similarities!
