Van Gogh Inspired
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Van Gogh “Greatest Hits” Exhibition in Estepona in June, which ends on 21st September 2025.
The first section of the exhibition provided a historical overview of Van Gogh’s life & art and showed many of his most famous paintings, including “View of Arles, Flowering Orchards”. I loved the views of the orchards with the navy-blue trees in the foreground.
At the time I was designing a woodland picture with many tree trunks in fairly traditional colourways. However, after seeing Van Gogh’s navy trees, I thought “why not have navy trees in my picture?”.
I have spent many hours happily working on my circle of glass, adding navy blue trees, a blue river and a background of blue flowers. The picture is displayed on a modern and elegant stand and I am thrilled with the result!
As I had some matching glass left over, I also made an accompanying tealight, which makes an ideal smaller present. Both these pieces are now on display at the White Square Art Gallery, Plaza Blanca, Sotogrande.
So, what next? I recently purchased a new bowl mould so, with “circles” in mind, I have decided my next project will be to design an abstract bowl. This turned out to be a timely thought as last week I had a glass sheet delivery that arrived 90% broken! Very frustrating as you can imagine!!
I have spent many hours cutting long shapes out of the broken sheets of glass (and cutting my fingers several times in the process!). However, there can often be a “silver lining” to any mishap and, in this case, I now have plenty of shapes for my next abstract design 😊.
